Cash all your checks!
There are rewards other than pay when it comes to leadership. So don’t count them out! It’s important to remember how leading and supporting others makes you feel at the end of the day. Although being fulfilled can be very rewarding, it’s what that fulfillment can do for you as a leader that truly matters. When feeling a sense of gratification after knowing that you have made a difference and helped someone change their trajectory for the better, it ultimately helps you as a leader to learn, develop, and become more effective at leadership. It inspires you to continue to improve your ability to lead and drives your motivation to continue to develop your leadership skills.
Look for the progress.
It’s important for you as a leader to consciously look for the wins so you’re continuously motivated to persevere and lead exceptionally well. Look for the following.
Team successes. Look at how your team has pulled together, what they’ve accomplished, finished, and the milestones they’ve achieved.
Behavior change. Notice the behavior shift of your team over time. Realize that the way you interacted with them caused them to shift their behavior and become more successful.
Confidence. Look at how the people on your team now approach their work with more certainty and less fear because of how you lead. You caused them to be more confident, less stressed, and more assured. This will overlap in their personal life too.
Development. Your team now has skills & developments that they didn’t possess before your leadership. You created an environment that helped them do the work and think differently about the work they needed to do.
Build a habit of “cashing all your checks”.
Build a habit of “cashing your checks” and fully realizing the rewards of great leadership. Write down the progress and positive things you notice each day about your team. Pay attention to and give weight to the moments when you feel good about yourself and what you’ve accomplished. You lead better when you are happy and fulfilled. And when you change the quality of your life in this way, you’re more capable of changing the quality of others.
